On Sexual Prosperity Gospel…
I read this article on about Joshua Harris and I have several reservations about it but I agree with some of the points that the author raised. Though I believe wholeheartedly that True Love Waits, the notion of eventual, automatic blessing and prosperity right after if you do good have flaws. It’s the same thing with prosperity gospel — giving money because God will bless you more with money. There’s a deep hidden problem inside your hearts if you think this is how God operates — like a genie who will give whatever you desire (especially is that monetary and material). John Piper once said “Prosperity cannot be proof of Gods Favor for this is what the Devil promises to those who worship him.”
And in 1 Timothy 6:6-12:
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Going back to the article, the author concluded his article by saying, “It’s worth recalling that formulas cannot shield us from the pain, frailty and disappointment of being human in a broken world.” This is true. Life is full of disappointments. You will get hurt. People will betray you. People may even use you. But remember that God is always faithful, God will always protect you, and trust in Jesus Christ Who is enough no matter what happens.
